Our mandate
The ECOLE Project, short for Educational Community Living Environment (in English) or Espace Communautaire et Logement Educatif (in French) seeks to bring together students, faculty and staff members of McGill University and Montreal residents in the pursuit of sustainable living through alternative and applied education, community building and engagement, and intentional, collective living. ECOLE is an ongoing experiment that strives to be a model and hub for sustainable urban living.

ECOLE is funded by a student fee levy collected from the constituents of the Students’ Societies of McGill University. The funding of ECOLE, and thus its existence, is stipulated through a referendum held in accordance with the Bylaws and Constitution of ECOLE.
The ECOLE Project operates at 3559 rue University, Montréal, a house situated on stolen Kanien’heka: ka land. We recognize that the Kanien’keha: ka people still hold moral and legal title to this land. We further acknowledge that ECOLE exists within the context of the ongoing colonial projects of the Québécois and Canadian states. As it fulfills its mandate, ECOLE shall strive to amplify anti-colonial, anti-oppressive, and Indigenous voices and to work in solidarity with the indigenous people of Turtle Island.
